Cold War Heroes Honored at Arlington Cemetery

Cold war veterans from throughout the nation render a salute to the cadets of the Carson Long Military Institute ( http://www.carsonlong.org/ ), for providing the Color Guard and bugler at Arlington National Cemetery on the May 1st "Remembrance Service for Forgotten Heroes of the Cold War". This day of recognition

Also worthy of note is that a Congressional Breakfast on May 1st at the Hart Senate Office Building, Washington, D.C. with featured speaker. Although the featured speaker was Congressman Joe Wilson, another speaker of note that day was Ernie Gallo. "Who's Ernie Gallo?", you ask. According to the USS Liberty website ( http://www.gtr5.com/USS-LVA President Ernie Gallo, after surviving the attack on the Liberty, spent the next 30 years working for the CIA.

The significance of his presence at the meeting cuts to the very heart of the entire non-recognition of Cold War veterans. Again, the USS Liberty website says it better than I can: "On June 8, 1967, US Navy intelligence ship USS Liberty was suddenly and brutally attacked on the high seas in international waters by the air and naval forces of Israel. The Israeli forces attacked with full knowledge that this was an American ship and lied about it. Survivors have been forbidden for 40 years to tell their story under oath to the American public. This USS Liberty Memorial web site tells their story and is dedicated to the memory of the 34 brave men who died."  (Source: http://www.gtr5.com/ )

Those reading this information about the USS Liberty for the first time and scoff are akin to those who say the Holocaust never happened. Yes, I know the Israelis are our allies, and rightly so... but... the USS Liberty incident is much more than a friend denting your fender in a parking lot. If you think otherwise, consider having a conversation with the families of the USS Liberty casualties.
